Abstrak

Consumption of fruits and vegetables is an important part of achieving balanced nutrition. The aim of the study was to determine the association of knowledge and attitudes towards fruit and vegetable consumption for students grade VIII at MTSN 2 Rokan Hulu. This type of research uses a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted on students grade VIII at MTSN 2 Rokan Hulu by using a simple random sampling technique, where each member or unit of the population has the same opportunity to be selected as a sample. The sample in this research was 72 respondents. The measurement tools for this study were knowledge, attitude questionnaires and Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ). The results were analyzed by univariate and bivariate using chi-square. Based on the results of the study, respondents with the most fruit and vegetable knowledge are in the medium category (48.6%), while the attitudes of the most respondents were in the good category (62.5%). As for the consumption level of fruit and vegetables, the highest number of respondents was in the less number category (83.3%). The results showed that there was association of knowledge towards fruit and vegetable consumption (p value = 0.016 < α 0.05) and there was no association of attitudes towards fruit and vegetable consumption (p value = 0.515 ˃ α 0.05). The conclusion of this study was that there was a significant association of knowledge towards fruit and vegetable consumption but there was no significant association of attitudes towards fruit and vegetable consumption.
